CWGC opens information centre near Menin Gate Memorial - Ieper - 10/05/2017
COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION (CWGC) OPENS NEW INFORMATION CENTRE NEAR MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, IEPER – IN HEART OF FIRST WORLD WAR BATTLEFIELDS

The growing numbers of visitors to the First World War cemeteries and memorials in Belgium can now take advantage of the CWGC’s 100 years of expertise in caring for these places when a new information centre opens in Ieper on Wednesday, 10 May.

The centre, just steps from the CWGC Menin Gate Memorial on Menenstraat, will be open to the public Wednesdays to Sundays from 2.30pm to 9pm. The late opening will allow visitors to the nightly sounding of the Last Post at the Menin Gate to drop in and learn more about the vital work the CWGC does in caring for the graves of those who fought and died here a century ago.

Liz Sweet, External Relations Director for CWGC Western Europe Area said: “We are excited by the opening of our new information centre in Ieper. Anyone who wants to find out more about the CWGC and its activities is welcome to drop in. Our friendly staff will be on hand to ensure the public get the most from their visit and learn more about the work we do. We want to encourage those visitors to discover the stories of those we commemorate at more than 150 cemeteries and memorials in and around Ieper.”
