Burial of 9 French soldiers - Ieper - 23/09/2021

On Thursday 23 September 2021 the burial of 9 French soldiers took place at the French military cemetery
Saint-Charles de Potyze
at Ieper. The soldiers had been found at and around Diksmuide and probably died in October/November 1914 when French troops succeeded in stopping the Germans at Diksmuide.

The coffins were installed at the back of the cemetery.
Arrival of the official party with French Ambassador in Belgium Hélène Farnaud-Defromont.
A number of pupils of a French school in Brussels brought a few stories of French soldiers during the Great War.

Address by the Ambassador.
Wreath laying by the French Ambassador and the military and civil authorities and associations.
The hymn 'Aux Morts' followed by the European hymn and the national anthems of Belgium and France.
The musicians from the French army from Lille.
The pupils finally laid flowers at the graves of some soldiers.
After the ceremony a prayer was said by the military chaplains and all the coffins were blessed. (Thanks to Dominique Bascour for the additional pictures).
