Op 7 juni 2017, de eeuwherdenking van de Mijnenslag van Mesen, vond de Australische herdenking plaats op Strand Military Cemetery te Ploegsteert. Deze begraafplaats heette aanvankelijk ook 'Australian Cemetery' omwille van de meer dan 270 Austalische soldaten die er begraven liggen. De plechtigheid werd geleid door Colonel Scott Clingan en werd muzikaal opgeluisterd door de Koninklijke Muziekkapel van de Belgische Zeemacht. Mw. burgemeester Marie-Eve Desbuquoit verwelkomde iedereen namens de gemeente Comines-Warneton. Vertegenwoordigers uit diverse landen waren aanwezig: de Australische ambassadeur Dr. Mark Higgie, de Governor General van Nieuw Zealand Mw. Patsy Reddy, De Belgische Minister van Defensie M. Steven Vandeput, de Vlaamse minister President M. Geert Bourgeois, naast ambassadeurs, militaire en burgerlijke vertegenwoordigers uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk,Canada, Ierland, Zuid Afrika, Frankrijk, België, Vlaanderen en Wallonië, de USA, Duitsland e.a. Tijdens de ceremonie werden de graven van twee soldaten plechtig geadopteerd. Hierrond bestaat in Comines-Warneton een project waarbij mensen het op zich kunnen nemen het graf van een soldaat te adopteren en zo dan in de toekomst de herdenking levend te houden.
De officële vertegenwoodigers van de diverse landen legden ook samen met de schoolkinderen een bloem neer op het graf van een soldaat. 
Heel wat Australiërs woonden deze herdenking ook bij, vaak familie van een van de vele gesneuvelden die hier, in de Westhoek, zijn gevallen en rusten of worden herdacht.

On June 7th 2017, the centenary of the 1917 Messines Mine Battle, an Australian ceremony took place at Strand Military Cemetery at Ploegsteert. This cemetery, at the time, was also known as Australian Cemetery because of the many, more than 270, Australian soldiers who are buried there. The ceremony was lead by Colonel Scott Clingan. The Royal Band of the Belgian Navy performed musically. Ms. Marie-Eve Desbuquoit, mayor of Comines-Warneton, welcomed the people. Representatives of different countries attended: the Australian Ambassador dr. Mark Higgie, the Governor General of New Zealand Dame Patsy Reddy, the Belgian Minister of Defence Mr. Steven Vandeput, the Minister president of Flanders Mr. Geert Bourgeouis, as well amabassadors and civil and militaryrepresentatives from the UK, Ierland, Canada, South Africa, France, Belgium, Flanders, Wallooon, the USA, Germany etc. During the ceremony two graves of soldiers were solemnly adopted. At the town of Comines-Warneton such project for adoption exists, through this project people can officially adopt a grave and so in the future take care of the remembrance.The official representatives of the different countries, together with schoolchildren laid flowers at the graves of fallen soldiers. Many Australians were present at this ceremony, often relatives of fallen soldiers who since are resting here or are commemorated here.
