DOUGHTY, RALPH DORCHEL, enlisted in N.S.W. SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA) on the 28/08/1914 with the rank of bombardier. He then embarked for overseas service with the 2nd Batt 1st Field, Artillery Brigade on the 18/10/1914. He served in Gallipoli, Egypt, France (Western Front), Belgium (Passchendaele) and awarded the Military Cross on the 8th May, 1917. Ralph died of wounds at the age of 25 and was laid to rest in Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium, Plot I, Row F, Grave 20. Ralph is proudly remembered by all the family and is known for being able to complete five day by day diaries (dated from the 5th April 1915 to the 16th March 1917), that have now been transcribed and added to the families website for all interested visitors to read the active and vivid life of a bombardier on the front lines.
