Gustaaf died of his injuries in Kaaskerke on October 21, 1914 en was buried there at the Oude Bareel.
On August 21, 1924 he was put on the Military Cemetery of De Panne, plot N, grave 64. Begin 2001, the grave was found for the first time by relatives.
Of his village of birth, 2 Gustaaf Van de Wiele were killed in WWI. The namesake of the 5th Line Regiment was perhaps buried as unknown soldier in Ramskapelle.
