August 1917 Tank battle at St. Julien Hill 35
Tank Memorial Ypres Salient, 19 August 2023
 
The friends of the TMYS commemorated the fallen tankies of the 19th and 22nd August 1917 attack at St. Julien i.e.
  1. the most successful tank action during the 3rd Battle of Ypres at Maison d'Hibou & Cockroft and
  2. the F41 - Fray Bentos tank-at Gallipoli Farm, the most decorated British tank crew to date over a single action on 22 August 1917.
Seen the Tank Memorial at Poelkapelle wasn't reachable because of road works, the ceremony was held at 1) Vancouver Corner Canadian memorial at which crossroads the tanks progressed to Poelkapelle and at the Irish Memorial at Hill 35 near Gallipoli Farm.Wayne Evans explained both actions and also the actionss of both the 36th Ulster and 16th Irish Divisions and father's Doyle' story. At Vancouver Corner the Canadian Anthem also sounded in tribute to the Canadian fallen followed by the British and Belgian one.  Standard bearers were WO2 (Retd) Wayne Evans and Capt (Retd) David J. Williams TD. TMYS Chairman Lt Colonel Ian Clooney RTR (SHAPE) also attended.
