Reburial Messines Ridge British Cemetery (Frank Mahieu) - Mesen - 19/03/2019
19/03/2019 - Mesen
Hun resten werden gevonden tijdens werken in Mesen.
On Tuesday 19 March 2019 at Messines Ridge British Cemetery a funeral service was held for an unknown soldier of the Royal Irish Rifles Rgt and and a soldier of an unknown regiment. Their remains were found during work to widen a drainage ditch in the Wulvergemstraat at Messines (Mesen). They were killed either in June 1917 (Battle of Messines) or in April 1918 (Battle of the Lys). They now finally are resting amidst their fallen comrades.
The ceremony was led by Army Chaplain Nathan King of the 1st Btn. The Royal Irish Regiment. Pall bearers of the regiment performed the funeral duties with full honour for their fallen predecessor. Official representatives of the Irish Military and Irish Embassy, the British Embassy, the CWGC, the city of Messines attended as did a number of interested and dedicated people.
