The Passchendaele Museum has been renewed since April 2025. Its adapted and more chronological storyline takes visitors step by step through the war years, enhanced by an extensive presentation of collection items and personal stories, a renewed audio guide and lifelike scenes.
“During the museum renewal, we placed greater emphasis on the visitor experience. The many positive reactions we have received over the past year are very encouraging and confirm that we made the right choices,” says Joachim Jonckheere, Chair of the Passchendaele Museum. “In January, we carried out painting works, cleaned the display cases and collection, and completed several small refurbishment projects. All of this was done to further improve the museum experience for our visitors. We hope that many visitors will once again find their way to Zonnebeke in 2026 to discover the renewed museum,” Joachim continues.
Family-friendly trail
Children aged 6 to 12 can set off on a journey of discovery with Lisa, her cousin Louis and the museum rat Maurice. With a tailor-made audio guide and a fold-out activity map, they learn more about the Great War in a playful way. Along the route, they complete a range of assignments, from discovering different gas smells to trying out Morse code. The trail is included in the admission ticket.
A wide range of activities
The Passchendaele Museum is more than just a museum visit. It is also a place of remembrance and reflection. The museum supports annual commemorations of the Battle of Passchendaele, with ANZAC Day, the Passchendaele Ceremony and Armistice Day remaining key moments throughout the year. The museum’s research centre also organises lectures that explore various aspects of the First World War in greater depth. In addition, the Passchendaele Museum takes part in a range of public events, including Heritage Day, Archaeology Days and Art Day for Children.
