Reburial Wytschaete Military Cemetery (Frank Mahieu) - Wijtschate - 10/10/2019
10/10/2019 - Wijtschate
October 10, 2019 a burial service was held at Wytschaete Military Cemetery. Two individual soldiers and the remains of 11 other soldiers were buried with full military honour performed by the soldiers of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers who also did this at the funeral for two of their predecessors at New Irish Farm Cemetery (Ieper) the day before Oct. 9th.
These men buried in Wijtschate were found during the excavation of the former WW1 German stronghold Hill 80 (Höhe 80) at Wijtschate in 2018. The service was conducted by Army Chaplain Patrick O'Driscoll. Music was performed by the The Joint Youth Orchestra and Choir from Gymnasium Theodorianum Paderborn (Germany), Mildenhall College Academy (UK) and St. Joseph's College Ipswhich (UK). These 13 soldiers, found at the excavation at Hill 80, now finally rest amongst their comrades.
