Today's 2nd. Rededication Service was at White House Cemetery for Serjeant Frederick Cardy of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. This service was also conducted by Revd. Isaac Thompson, Chaplain to the Royal Irish Regiment. Representatives of Irish & British Embassy were present, as were military of the Royal Irish Regiment, and also representatives of Belgian Military, the RBL, the CWGC and The Somme Association. Faugh a Ballagh !  Sjt. Cardy was born in 1893 in Sudbury, Suffolk, son of Henry and Sarah Ann. In 1911 he married Emily Layzell. A son Ralph was born in 1916. Before Frederick Cardy had served with the 13th. Royal Hussars and he rejoined them in October 1916 for war service. In December 1916 he was transferred to the Royal Irish Fusiliers.

On August 10th 1917, during 3rd. Ypres, his 7/8th Battalion RIF was involved in battle in the area of Frezenberg (Zonnebeke). The battalion was relieved there on 12th August at midnight. In between 10th and 12th Sjt. Cardy was killed. His marked grave was found after the war but the markings were no longer legible. He so was reburied at White House Cemetery in an unnamed grave. This now is no longer the case seen, through extended research, his identity has been proven. Sgt. Frederick Cardy finally has a known grave. Lest We Forget. Rest in Peace.

The ceremony was organised by the MOD & JCCC. The new grave and headstone was made by the CWGC who will care for it in perpetuity.

After this ceremony, the military of the Royal Irish Regiment and all present, paid respectfully tribute to the soldier of the Royal Irish Fusiliers buried at this cemetery who was awarded the Victoria Cross: Pte. Robert Morrow, son of Hugh and Margaret Jane Morrow of Dungannon, County Tyrone. Aged 23, he was killed on 25th April 1915. He was awarded the VC at Messines on 12 April 1915 when he, under heavy German shelling and bombing, on his own initiative, rescued several comrades in the destroyed trenches from under fallen debris. NL tekst: De tweede ‘Rededication’ ceremonie vandaag vond plaats op White House Cemetery voor Serjeant Frederick Cardy van de Royal Irish Fusiliers. De plechtigheid werd eveneens voorgegaan door Revd. Isaac Thompson, aalmoezenier bij het Royal Irish Regiment. Vertegenwoordigers van de Ierse en Britse Ambassades waren aanwezig alsook militairen van het Royal Irish Regiment, tevens vertegenwoordigers van het Belgische Leger, het RBL, de CWGC en van The Somme Association. Sjt. Cardy werd geboren in 1893 in Sudbury, Suffolk, als zoon van  Henry en Sarah Ann. In 1911 huwde hij met Emily Layzell. Hun zoon Ralph werd geboren in 1916. Voordien had Frederick Cardy gediend bij de 13th. Royal Hussars en in oktober 1916 nam hij daar weer dienst voor de oorlog. In december 1916 werd hij overgeplaatst naar de  Royal Irish Fusiliers.

Op 10 augustus 1917, gedurende de 3e Ieperslag, was zijn 7/8th Battalion RIF om middernacht in de omgeving van de Frezenberg (Zonnebeke) en daar dan betrokken in de gevechten. Het bataljon werd er op 12 augustus om middernacht afgelost. In die periode van 11-12 augustus sneuvelde Sjt. Cardy. Exacte gegevens ontbreken.

Zijn gemarkeerd graf werd na de oorlog gevonden maar de inscripties waren deels onleesbaar geworden. Zo werd hij  herbegraven op White House Cemetery in een naamloos graf. Nu is dat niet langer het geval en door uitvoerig onderzoek werd zijn identiteit vastgesteld. Sgt. Frederick Cardy heeft nu voor altijd een gekend graf. Lest We Forget. Rest in Peace.

De ceremonie werd georganiseerd door de MOD & JCCC. Zoals altijd zorgde de CWGC voor het nieuwe graf en de grafsteen en zij zullen er ook blijvend zorg voor dragen.

Na deze plechtigheid brachten de militairen van het Royal Irish Regiment samen alle aanwezigen nog hulde aan de soldaat van de Royal Irish Fusiliers die er begraven ligt en met het Victoria Cross werd onderscheiden: Pte. Robert Morrow, zoon van Hugh and Margaret Jane Morrow van Dungannon, County Tyrone. Hij sneuvelde op 25 april 1915, 23 jaar oud. Hij kreeg de onderscheiding voor zijn bijzondere daad op 12 april te Mesen toen hij, op eigen initiatief, onder zware beschietingen en bombardementen meerdere van zijn kameraden redde uit het puin van de ingestorte loopgraaf.
