Huib Hoste and modernism - Zonnebeke - 01/08/2020
Let architect Huib Hoste show you around in the Church of Our Lady in Zonnebeke. He tells the special story of his unique creations in a generally traditional reconstruction after the devastation of the First World War.

Hoste's innovative, modernist conception of reconstruction did not appeal to everyone in Zonnebeke. For example, his plan for a new town hall was not carried out and Father Lammens is cutting corners with the interior of the church. Thanks to Virtual Reality you can discover what Hoste thought the interior of the church should have looked like. You will also learn more about his designs in the municipality and the region. After the exhibition, you can visit the church tower where a viewing box on the top floor shows 3D photos of the rebuilt Zonnebeke.

Climb the tower and discover how the history of the region has changed the landscape in the exhibition 'A Scarred Landscape'. The climb will reward you with a phenomenal view over the surrounding countryside.

Infoboxes in Zonnebeke, Passendale (Passchendaele), Beselare, Geluveld and Zandvoorde) tell you the story of the reconstruction in that area.
