Soldaten van het 4e Regiment Royal Artillery, de Northern Gunners verzamelen buiten de begraafplaats in afwachting van de aankomst van de lijkwagens. Deze soldaten zijn de opvolgers van o.a. the artilleristen van de (1e en 2e East en) 3e North Riding Artillery bataljon(s) (2e Northumbrian Brigade Royal Field Artillery van de 50th Northumbrian Division) waartoe de 2 geidentificeerde soldaten (kanonniers) behoorden. /
Soldiers of the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, the Northern Gunners, assemble outside the cemetry in awatiance of the hearses. These soldiers are the successors of the gunners of the (1st and 2nd East and) en 3rd North Riding Artillery battalion(s) (2nd Northumbrian Brigade Royal Field Artillery of the 50th Northumbrian Division).

Gunner Joseph William Rowbottom, aged 27, killed in action on 24 May 1915
Gunner Albert William Venus, aged 22, killed in action on 24 May 1915
and their 4  'known unto God' comrades, probably from the same batalion and probably also killed 24 May 1915.
 
An entry in an official war diary records the day Gunners Venus and Rowbotom were killed. It states:  A shell, apparently about 4in H.E. (high explosive), burst in rear of No.1 gun, a second hit the gable of the farm, and a third, striking the right wheel of No. 1 gun (A subsection), killed No 1037 Cpl TA Carr, No. 1015 Gr JW Clarke, No 1682 Gr G Robinson, No 1308 Gr J Rowbottom and No 1817 Gr AW Venus and severely wounded No 391 Sgt GP Hill, also putting the gun effectively out of action."
