Rededication L.Sgt. Birkin & Sgt. Cottrell (Frank Mahieu) - Ieper - 22/03/2022
Today, March 22nd. 2022, two rededication ceremonies were conducted at Ypres Reservoir Cemetery. Each ceremony for two men of the Leicester Regiment. The morning ceremony was for the newly identified LANCE SERJEANT EDWARD LEONARD COTTRELL ( Killed 2 Sept. 1915) and for SERJEANT JOSEPH FRANK BROOKES BIRKIN ( killed 25 Sept. 1915; known as Frank). They respectively served with the 1/4th and 1/5th Battalion of the Leicester Regiment. Relatives of Sgt. J. F. B. Birkin attended the ceremony, so did military of the Anglian Regiment (that perpetuates the Leicestershires). Revd. Thomas Wilde, Army Chaplain conducted the service which was organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre. The CWGC provided the new headstones for which they will take care for ever. A representative of the British Embassy, Belgian local civil and military offcials were present as were people dedicated to remembrance of the fallen.

Op 22 maart 2022 hadden twee herinwijdingsceremonies plaats op Ypres Reservoir Cemetery. Bij elke ceremonie ging het om twee soldaten van het Leicester Regiment.'s Morgens was dit voor de nieuw geïdentificeerde LANCE SERJEANT EDWARD LEONARD COTTRELL (gesneuveld 2 Sept. 1915)  en voor SERJEANT JOSEPH FRANK BROOKES BIRKIN (gesneuveld 25 Sept. 1915; gekend als Frank). Ze dienden respectievelijk bij het 1/4th and 1/5th Battalion van het Leicester Regiment. Militairen van het Royal Anglian Regiment dat de opvolger is van het Leicestershire Regiment verzorgden de mikiairev eer. Aalmoezenier, Revd. Thomas Wilde ging voor in de plechtighheid die werd georganiseerd door Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre. De CWGC voorzag in de nieuwe grafzerken en zal er ook hier voor eeuiwg zorhg voor dragen.  Een vertegenwoordiger van de Britse Ambassade was aanwezig, en tevens Belgische militairen en locale burgerlijke overheden, samen met mensen die de herdenking zijn toegewijd.
