Tribute to the soldiers of the Indian army - Ieper - 28/04/2022
In the week of 25 April 2022, the Indian Embassy in Belgium and the Military Attache paid tribute to all the Indian soldiers who died during the Great War and who are buried in Belgium.

Greatwar.be joind the delegation on Thursday 28 April.

The fist stop was at Duhallow Advanced Dressing Station Cemetery in Ieper.













Next stop was Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery where 3 soldiers from India are buried. 



A wreath was laid at the stone of remembrance.













Next stop was Brandhoek New Military Cemetery, also at Vlamertinge.













From Vlamertinge, the delegation went to Dikkebus to The Huts Cemetery











Next stop was Grootebeek British Cemetery at Reningelst.



Here 7 soldiers from India are buried.

















Major Christof Dejaegher from the city op Poperinge joined the delegation.





Wreaths were laid at the cross of sacrifice.















Next stop in Poperinge was Nine Elms Military Cemetery











Last stop in Poperinge was Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Alongside the entrance path, each pole in metal refers to a specific date of the Great War and indicates the number of victims on that day.







3 soldiers from India are buried on this large cemetery.

The delagation left Poperinge for Westouter and Westouter Churchyard and Extension







Next stop was Kemmel and Kemmel Churchyard





Bart Vanacker joined the Indian delegation for the tribute to the Indian soldiers and this on behalf of the village of Heuvelland.







The delegation received a welcome in the nearby visitor centre. 





They watched the movie on the battle of the mines of June 1917.



The last stop of the day was Nieuwkerke Churchyard















And this was the final stop for this day.
