Historical background
On September 28, 1918, the major Allied offensive broke out, ending World War I. That day, the Belgians, under the command of King Albert I, along with the British and French, attacked the Germans on the ridge near Ypres. After heavy fighting, the Belgian Carabiniers and Grenadiers captured the ruins of the village of Passchendaele.
