Rededication Lance Corporal Frederick Thomas Wilkinson (Frank Mahieu) - Mesen - 15/09/2022
In the morning of Sept. 15th 2022 a rededication service was held at Messines Ridge British Cemetery for Lance Corporal Frederick Thomas Wilkinson. L.Cpl. Wilkinson was killed on 29 June 1917, aged only 19, while serving with the 13th. Bn. The Kings Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC). He was on born on 29 November 1897 in London, the youngest son of Charles and Louisa Wilkinson. He already enlisted on 20 Sept. 1914, first with the 2nd. Bn then transferred to the 13th Bn. KRRC. On a patrol while the battalion was consolidating the frontline near the hamlet Oosttaveerne (Wijtschate) Frederick was killed. His original grave site got lost later in the war. Research anyhow now lead to identification and Federick Wilkinson now has a known grave. The service was conducted by Revd. Pritchard Chaplain to the Forces.

Group Capt. John Dickson represented the British Embassy and 2nd. Lt. Hayder Al-Azzawi of the 8th. Bn The Rifles paid tribute to his predecessor of the KRRC. The ceremony was organised by the MOD War Detectives, the new headstone provided by the CWGC who will take of this for ever.
Rest in Peace.
