Tribute to the Great War Victims

On Sunday 26th March 2017, the Flanders Fields will beat to the rhythm of the 79th "World Tour" Gent-Wevelgem edition. This year, an exceptional course on the territory of Ploegsteert in Comines-Warneton (BE) will integrate the circuit of the elite race.

Going through the Plugstreets, along the paths at the edge of the Gheer woods and on the Hill «la Hutte», many sites of memory will be highlighted and will accentuate the identity of the Gent-Wevelgem race to Commemoration of the Great War. The racing cyclists will also pay a symbolic tribute to the many Great War Victims.

Beyond the conflict, the highlighting of the Christmas Truce will also remind us that sport surpasses widely violence.

In memory of the Great War Victims, an official ceremony will take place on Sunday 26th March 2017 at 10:30 am on the historic site of the Christmas Truce, in the presence of various representatives, authorities, patriotic associations and young people from sports clubs.

Sportsmen, world citizens, young and less young, we invite you to take part in this vibrant tribute.
