Burial Ceremony for a Soldier of the Great War
A burial service for an unknown Commonwealth soldier will take place at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Buttes New British Cemetery at 10am on 4 July 2018.
The casualty was discovered near Hooge near Ypres, and although it is known that he was serving with the Commonwealth forces, it has not been possible to identify him. The CWGC will commemorate him as a ‘Soldier of the Great War, Known unto God’.
The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, Ministry of Defence and will be attended by British Defence Staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
