The following burial services are due to be held at CWGC Cemeteries in October 2019.

Wednesday 9 October 2019
Burial service for two unknown soldiers of the Royal Fusiliers will be held at CWGC’s New Irish Farm Cemetery.

A burial service will be held for two unknown soldiers of the Royal Fusiliers at 10.30am at New Irish Farm Cemetery.

The casualties were discovered in 2014 during building work near the site of the original Irish Farm Cemetery. Although artefacts indicate that they were serving with the Royal Fusiliers, it has not been possible to identify the casualties despite extensive research by the UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre.

CWGC will install headstones on their graves commemorating them as soldiers of the Royal Fusiliers ‘Known unto God’, and care for their graves in perpetuity.

The service will be attended by British Defence Staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Thursday 10 October 2019
Burial service for 13 casualties of the Commonwealth Forces will be held at CWGC’s Wytschaete Military Cemetery.

A burial service will be held for 13 unknown soldiers of unknown regiments at 11.00am at Wytschaete Military Cemetery.

The casualties were discovered in 2018 as part of an archaeological excavation of a former First World War battlefield near the town of Wytschaete, known as Hill 80 during the war.

Due to the heavy nature of the fighting in this area it has not been possible to identify the individuals. They will be interred together, and their collective grave will be marked with three CWGC headstones. This ensures that those who served and died together, will be buried and commemorated together in perpetuity.

The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and will be attended by British Defence Staff, CWGC staff and local dignitaries. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
