First Minister to visit Welsh First World War sites in Belgium and northern France

The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, will visit Flanders in Belgium and Picardy in northern France, on Wednesday and Thursday next week. He will visit the site of a new memorial in Belgium to Welsh participants in the First World War, where he will make an announcement about Welsh Government support for building the new memorial and cut the first sod.

He will also visit the nearby grave of Welsh First World War poet Ellis Humphrey Evans (Hedd Wyn); attend the nightly remembrance ceremony at the Menin Gate Commonwealth War Memorial at Ieper (Ypres), Belgium to and visit the Memorial to the 38th (Welsh) Division at Mametz Wood in northern France, which is being revamped with Welsh Government support.
